Aligned with the theme “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration” for World Environment Day on June 5th, 2024, we collaborated with Sri I B Manoj, an esteemed environmentalist from North Paravur, for a purposeful initiative. Our joint endeavor with Rewild, a community learning space founded by Sri I B Manoj, aimed to develop 15 cents of land within the Rewild campus into a mini fruit forest, herbal garden, and butterfly park, emphasizing the critical importance of land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience.
This project was made possible through the generous contributions of GenRe tribe members and the support of NAICO.The project had clear goals: to create accessible and educational green spaces for students in Kochi, promote hands-on learning about eco-restoration and sustainable living, and align with World Environment Day’s focus on land restoration and combating desertification. To ensure success, we implemented measures like securing adequate water resources, regular manuring with local compost, and ongoing progress monitoring. Sri. Manoj’s previous success with mangrove saplings in North Paravur underscored his expertise, boosting our confidence in achieving a thriving green space at Rewild Campus. The project also fostered employee engagement at NAICO Information Technology Services Private Limited, allowing team members to contribute to a meaningful environmental initiative
Students, employees from Naico Information Technology Services Private Limited and young enthusiasts actively participated in planting and farming activities under Sri. Manoj’s guidance. This project serves as an educational resource for students, highlighting the importance of land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience. A bamboo fence was also installed to protect these newly created habitats.
