BLDC Fan Distribution and Climate Change awareness session at Moodadi Panchayth, Calicut

Moodadi Panchayath, in Kozhikode district, Kerala, is a picturesque village with a diverse landscape encompassing coastal and hilly areas. The Panchayath, overseeing an area of 16.02 sq. km, is home to a population of over 29,000 residents.

Recognizing the unique challenges posed by rising temperatures, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has designated Moodadi as a living laboratory for its Heat Action Plan. This initiative aims to develop and implement strategies to mitigate heat-related stresses and build community resilience in rural areas. Moodadi’s varied geography and readily available panchayath-level geodatabases make it an ideal location for piloting innovative solutions.

The Sustera Foundation has answered KSDMA’s call for knowledge partnership, playing a vital role in bolstering community engagement and resilience-building efforts within Moodadi. Through a multifaceted approach encompassing awareness campaigns, action research, resource pooling, and project showcasing, Sustera is actively supporting the Moodadi Grama Panchayath in realizing its Heat Action Plan objectives.

On July 29, 2024, as a first step in implementing the Heat Action Plan in Moodadi Panchayath, the Gen-Re Collective distributed six energy-efficient BLDC fans to the Grama Panchayath building. This initiative aimed to promote energy conservation and reduce heat stress within the community.

Alongside the fan distribution, an awareness session was conducted on energy security, climate change, and the significance of renewable energy and BLDC technology. Panchayat officials and community members actively engaged, sharing insights and perspectives. The session fostered meaningful conversations, effectively conveying the crucial message of the impact local action can have on global issues.
